I use the My Chip Carving Knives for all my carving and with every student that I teach. Definitely the best chip carving knives on the market today. Steve said it all when he commented, “Just got my knife today and all I can say is WOW! What a difference it makes.”

AEB-L vs common American carbon steels
“Roman Landes and John Verhoeven have both done different tests with
AEB-L. In CATRA testing Dr. Verhoeven found AEB-L to outcut 52100,
1086, and Wootz damascus. He also found AEB-L to be able to take a
smaller edge radius than 52100 in controlled sharpening tests. Roman
Landes found AEB-L to have greater edge stability, toughness, and wear
resistance than 52100. Edge stability is a property that describes a steel’s
ability to hold a finely sharpened edge. 52100 is one of the most well
respected carbon steels, and is well known for its small carbides, high
toughness, and high edge stability, so it’s impressive that AEB-L was able to
beat it in these categories, while also having greater wear resistance and
being a stainless steel. Many users have reported that AEB-L sharpens as
easily as any other carbon steel they have used.”

I’ve always had trouble with chatter on curved cuts, but this knife is very helpful in alleviating the chatter. Handle is comfortable and it holds an edge quite well.

This is a great knife. I have owned it for about a year. It is easy to sharpen, stays sharp a long time, feels good in my hand, and is my best knife for really fine detailed cuts. Also it cuts a curve quite nicely. It has earned the “third” spot in my three knife box and I don’t imagine any knife will be pushing it out any time soon!

I love this knife not only for curved areas but also for some projects that have tiny chips.

After using my new knife I have been doing more projects. I have found that a good knife makes me want to do more and that is what is happening with this knife. I am making Christmas mirrors for my grand daughter and trying out new patterns all the time. I am reguvenated.

I have this knife, and it is fantastic! Works extremely well for tight curves and free form chip-carving. If you don’t have this one, you’re truly missing out!

Haven’t purchased it yet but the modified chip carving knife is the first purchase that I will make. Looks like it is made from high quality materials with a lot of thought in mind to help the chip carver make tight cuts perfectly.

Received the modified knife last week and I can't put it down. The fit and finish is superb. I own many knives Two Cherries, Helvie, Deepwoods, Murphy, Butz, and others which are all great brands. However, after using this "My Chip Carving' knife I know already it is going to be my go-to knife from now on. The Rosewood handle is beautiful with the brass rivets, the full stainless steel blade / tang, razor sharp presharpened edge, and the heft and balance all make it not only resonate quality but delivers a first class cutting performace. I am so impressed that I just ordered the other 2 knives to complete the set. My only recommendation would be to add one more detail knife to the set with an upturned sweep to the edge so I could use "My Chip Carving" knives for all my knife carving needs. Thank you. LWB

I recently purchased this knife and can’t say enough good things about it. It’s great on any cut but especially curves. Love it.

I purchased the modified knife for two reasons. The first reason was because I needed a knife that would help in my learning process with the carving of letters with curves. This knife works very well, it holds an edge just fine and compared to my regular Knife, this one turns the corners like a race car. The second reason I purchased this knife is that it came with a nice basswood box. This sport is very addictive and you can’t have too many chunks of wood lying around to carve on. I now have a fine knife and a custom carved box to keep it in. Well worth the money spent!

purchased this knife to make a chip carved 50th anniversary plate for a couple I know. I had tried to do the carving with the regular knife, but the curves where very hard to get smooth and sharp curves where impossible for me. I talked to Marty and he suggested this knife. When I looked at it on line, and when it came it didn’t look much different from the regular knife, but it makes a big difference. I can now make curves, even fairly tight ones and although they aren’t perfect they are acceptable to me. I would highly recommend this knife if you are doing any curves or lettering. Also would recommend the scalloped plate, makes a very attractive carving.

The knife works very well and came extremely sharp. I bought it for projects that required smaller lettering and designs, and it does the job. It also fits well in the hand and the weight is just right.

Randy Hicks: (posted with permission) I have been using your modified knives for a couple of years and love them. In the past I have used other knives and experimented with them and have found that I can do 80% of my carving using the modified knife. I have carved probably 20 mantle clocks and this knife really works well for carving the foliage and berries.

This is a very nicely made knife, which came phenomenally sharp. It’s quite compact, but the thickness of the handle and the thumb notch make it comfortable and secure to hold. The blade metal is thicker than I am used to in my other knives but this doesn’t take long to adjust to, and I think the thickness is probably important in maintaining stability when doing the tight curves that this knife is capable of. It has a nice weight to it and an over-engineered quality. For the trickier cuts of your chip carving, you can’t go wrong with this one!

Marty, I received my Modified Knife the other day and just had the opportunity to put it through some practice. AWESOME!!!!. Did tell you its AWESOME.The long point of the modified knife makes it so much easier to carve with, and that is what makes carving such a pleasure. It certainly has its place with the small to medium size chips and the Standard Knife does the work horse of the chipping. You sharpened it to a razor finish so I know how it should work when it comes time to tune it up.Oh….did I tell you how much I really like my new knife……

I “HIGHLY” recommend the platinum edition knives. I have used many other knives over the years and have found none that surpass the quality of these chip carving knives. The modified knife edition feels great in the hand and holds an incredibly sharp edge.
