Dorothy Jones –
I have tried using other sources for small boards such as these and they are never as good quality as the ones provided by My Chip Carving. The grain is clear and consistent and the knife slices through them like a hot knife through butter! Great for practice boards or for Christmas decorations or whatever tickles your fancy.

I have ordered these boards several times and have never been disappointed. The boards are clear and square. The thickness is great for many projects. I recently used some for Christmas gifts. I made a sign showing the names of each of my grandkids for their door or wherever. I also made about 20 refrigerator magnets to give instead of Christmas cards. I highly recommend these for anyone that does not have a planer, or just don’t want to deal with making your own boards.

great to keep you practicing and the price is right. you can experiment without breaking the bank

These boards are excellent practice boards. Have been really pleased with the quality of them. Got some from somewhere else and they just weren’t the size and quality that these are

Are you in need of some practice? I know that I need it all the time to keep up with sharpness of my cuts. I had tried to use boards I bought locally but usually they are made out of southern basswood that is stringy and hard. I have always gone back to MyChipCarving practice boards for practice and for ornaments. If needed Marty will also plane these thinner for more delicate ornaments. I have bout 1/4″ thick from Marty several times. My advice is to go with these boards as they can not be topped.

I’m hesitant to call these “practice” boards, their quality is so good! I’d feel comfortable using them in a project intended as a gift, or that I wanted to enter in a show! For this quality, at this price… These boards simply can’t be beat!Rory

The boards I purchased from My Chip Carving have been my first experience with basswood. Living in the UK and Australia, European lime is my usual material. I am very impressed with how clean this basswood is, and how consistent the carving is. I can see why it is the wood of choice for most chip carvers.

these boards have good even grain that lends to chip carving well. In the order i received two out of 12 boards were warped. I consider the difficulty it is to ship these boards given the dimensions being 3/8″ by 5″ and that they travel through a variety of temperature and humidity changes. My project requires flat boards. I can still use these boards for something else. The wood appears to be of the super fine quality as the rest of the boards.

I have ordered basswood boards a number of times from MyChipCarving. They have always been excellent clean wood. My favorite size is the 3/8 inch x 6 inch widths. The depth it generally fine for practicing cuts on both sides if not cut really deep. I use the boards to layout patterns to practice cutting before going to a plate or other object. I just purchased a new book on chip carving and one of the first things that the author suggested was using practice boards for cutting
out designs and motifs they intended to use on final works. Good advice and these boards are perfect for that purpose.

I am new to chip carving, in need of practice board. I’ve found few sources for thin basswood board for use in chip carving so when I found this site, I ordered a number of boards. The basswood is great quality and ready to carve. I will be ordering more!

Ezboard is fantastic. I was having a real hard time with the depth of my cuts. I’m new to this beautiful art and I was getting very frustrated. I sent Marty a few photos of my grip, I knew it wasn’t right. With his help and EZboard, my cuts are becoming consistent and my frustration is gone. I really recommend trying this product.
