Welcome to My Chip Carving Community, Ron!
So glad you’re here and shared with us your story.Don’t slow down!!
MartyParticipantHey Ron, MDF, medium density fiberboard, is not good for chip carving. MDF is basically wood particles glued together. It’s crumbly and does not leave a good surface when cut/carved. I’ve heard from some who have tried carving it, but I’ve not tried it myself. If someone has and experienced different results than I described, i’d be interested to hear about it.
EZboard is high-density urethane (HDU) and nothing like MDF. EZboard has uniform density, is softer than basswood, carves beautifully, holds detail and takes any type of finish. HDU has been a sign makers material for many years. I can send you a sample if you like. Just let me know.
