My son does some beautiful leather work and was making belts for friends of his who were getting married. About four days before the wedding he contacted me and asked if I could make a gift box for the belts because he didn’t want to put them in just a plain box with some gift wrap. So I slapped together a basic box with some scrap basswood I had available and added a simple pattern on the lid so the box would be a bit of a memento for the young couple.
The wedding took place outdoors on a sunny, albeit chilly, Saturday in January by a frozen lake next to the base of the Steeples Range here in the Rockies. It was a small wedding (bride, groom, my son as best-man, the made-of-honour, the minister and a photographer) because of the pandemic restrictions so I hope these gifts will help make up for not being able to have all their family and friends to share in the occasion.
