This board was inspired by an original by Wayne Barton. The foliated letter in particular has a rich, bold, adventurous design – characteristic of the author, I would say. It is stained basswood.Practice Board

Hello Andrei, Good execution of chip carving technique leads to good results like you’ve shown us here!

The four sided chips on the bottom rosette reveal careful attention to proper angle. Those chips are not easy 🙂

Way to go and thanks for sharing.

What stain did you apply? Gel? Anyway, very nice carving.

reply from Andrei –  “a water-based stain, walnut, 3-4 layers. Thank you kindly.”

That’s a nice and interesting mix of styles, well done in my opinion! The shape of the foliated letter reminds me on a picture from instagram. An american chip carver called “saturdayboxco” posted one of his fine works, a “piggy bank”. The artwork was out of Charles Leland’s 1909 Manual of Woodcarving, according to saturdayboxco.
