Thought you’d like to read my reply to this question:
“Please point me to an article on how you analyze a pattern or project for order of cuts. Probably no perfect answer.”
Generally speaking, follow this when it comes to deciding order of cuts to remove chips.
- start in the center and work out. This avoids dragging your hand on areas already carved.
- large chips first. This will avoid chip out with smaller, more delicate chips.
- when several chips converge in the center: make the cuts from the outside in before the cuts from the inside out.
- make as many cuts with the grain as possible
