Chip carved gift – Andrei Gotia

This is a birthday gift (the letter is the initial of my friend’s name) and it can be put on a shelf or hung on a wall. Shellac sealed, stained (with a water based walnut color, several coats), satin lacquer for the final coat.

This is a rosette which started with an incident: I inadvertently carved through the disc at the first ‘valley’ (thanks to the lapboard, no accident followed ;o)). My temptation was to throw the project away and start anew. But then I was inspired to use the incident by replicating it, hence the result. Lesson learned: do not be discouraged by mistakes, but try to fix them and often nobody could tell. ;o)) It is basswood, stained directly, without a sealer, with a diluted water-based stain.
