    I have not been chip carving long, but tried this ‘rosette-style’ ornament for our Christmas tree. Basswood, 3/8″ thick, drew the pattern onto the wood with a compass.

    It’s not the best, but a good practice piece.

    Looking forward to the new Diamond knives that I asked Santa for….

    Hi Jim,

    Thanks for posting you new chip carving! As an early carver you did very well. Congrats.

    You’ll learn how to avoid some of the issues you ran into when carving this.
